Star Excursion Balance Test
Here is a demonstration of the Star Excursion Balance Test. This is a dynamic test that requires strength, flexibility, and proprioception. It is a measure of dynamic balance and stability that provides a significant challenge to athletes and physically active individuals. The test can be used to assess physical performance but can also be used to screen for deficits in dynamic postural control due to musculoskeletal injuries (e.g. chronic ankle instability), to identify athletes at greater risk for lower extremity injury, as well as during the rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries in healthy adults. Performing this test is a 60 year old male.

Balke Treadmill Test
The Balke Treadmill Test is a very simple test used to determine VO2 Max (the maximal volume of oxygen a person consumes and uses with the active muscles during exercise). It measures cardiovascular fitness through a safe standardized and progressive protocol. This client is 60 years old and had a VO2 Max of 36.60mls/kg/min which puts him close to the 90th percentile for cardiorespiratory fitness.

Klatt Test
The Klatt Test developed by Lois Klatt PhD. is used to test for muscular imbalances in the knees, hips, pelvis, and lower back. Training can be developed to address the identified deficiencies. Structural balance was brought to the forefront of strength training by Charles Poliquin in the 1980's. If you watch closely you will see that the client has an imbalance when landing on the right leg. The right leg lands towards the midline of the body indicating a weakness in the right leg abductors.

1RM Test
Here is an example of the 1RM Bench Press Test. This test can be used to assess athletes or personal training clients to determine the percentages of weight that they should be lifting. In this case an assessment was being done on a 14 year old rugby player. Her 1RM was determined to be 87 lbs.
